ÉQUILIBRE -Seeking balance in dissonance
As a natural continuation of LIMEN, the 2024-25 autumn-winter collection of EVELINFINK, ÉQUILIBRE, is centered around the search for balance in times of transformation: representing a core universal human longing for order and tranquility, which is increasingly out of reach in our modern, dynamically shifting world. Yet, the designer, echoing notions from previous collections, epitomizes a
belief that this state of equilibrium can be discovered— if not necessarily in the external world, but within the depths of ourselves. In line with the brand’s ethos, the collection celebrates this feminine inner strength and its dual nature as a powerful force against the volatility of the world.
The ÉQULIBRE represents a new stage in our transformative journey: after an initial, struggling, transitional phase of change, it symbolizes the emergence of a growing desire for permanence, which, in the face of the constant challenges we face often seems an unattainable utopia.
The name of the collection bears this contradiction - the Latin word “aequilibrium”, combining the equals sign and the word balance, refers to a state in which neither force outweighs the other. Dissonance is not only a hindrance to the establishment of a state of equilibrium, but is usually a condition for it, since for two forces to balance each other, one force must often be stronger than the other. ÉQULIBRE calls for us to increase our inner strength and mobilize our inner capacity to overcome life's challenges in a resilient and successful way.
The contrast between balance and dissonance is reflected in the patterns of the collection. Following in the footsteps of previous collections, the brand reimagined patterns from the renowned Goldberger Textile Factory, giving
traditional patterns a new momentum in the designer's contemporary interpretation, bridging the gap between the permanence of the past and the unpredictability of the present moment. The deconstruction of the straight lines of the original pattern creates a lively, dynamic
impression, alluding to the continuous changeability of life, where the arbitrary system
of converging and diverging lines evokes the desire for balance.
A recurring motif in Evelin Fink's work is the inherent duality of femininity: the contrast between the innate feminine softness and the inner strength and poise that are required for self-assertion - which is expressed in the designer's unique lines from collection to
collection. This duality is the guiding principle behind ÉQILIBRE's pattern lines as well: fluid, easy-going silhouettes that suggest the
flexibility of being feminine are combined with rigid, strong lines - also suggesting that in the face of life's challenges, asserting both sides of femininity is necessary to overcome and move forward. Practicing our inner strength requires a balance between the dual characteristics of female existence.
The colors of the collection also allude to the dissonant, constantly changing world and the sustaining power of balance. The deep purple, reflecting depth and calm, is contrasted by the fresh, vibrant shades of matcha green, lending the collection a sense of dynamism and flexibility. Grey not only represents tranquility but also, together with silver, a futuristic perspective on the future, adding further tones to the collection's
dissonant balance. An arbitrary pop-up of black in the patterns further fragments the sense of balance, hinting at the unpredictable twists and turns of life.
The collection blends natural and forward-looking materials, typical of the EVELINFINK brand. Caterpillar silk organza and vegan cupro silk, wool, and organic cotton co-exist harmoniously with innovative bamboo fabrics, a special fabric made from recycled sustainable marine waste, called Seaqual-, and vegan leather alternate made from pineapple leaf fibers.
The ÉQUILIBRE collection is an invitation to draw strength from within us as women in the face of life's vicissitudes, harnessing the duality of our femininity, and creating a state of equilibrium within ourselves in the face of life's challenges to successfully move forward on the transformative journeys we have embarked upon.
